The Wave A documentary by Hanna Heilborn

Hanna Heilborn, the filmmaker, challenges herself by deciding to learn how to surf, and to let a film photographer follow her in the struggle. During this travel, under and above water, she starts to remember bits and pieces from her childhood and an inner travel develops along as the outer one. The film is built on a humorous Voice-Over and the goal to become a good surfer, without having the age or, as she believes, the looks for it. Yet not only good memories are brought to the surface – and the meetings with boat-refugees dying in the same place as we, the Europeans, get pleasure also complicate the easiness. This is a short documentary (28 min) as much as a beginning of an art projects, where pictures from both now and then are mixed with animation.
